Brian Watson

BJW 0627

A native of Massachusetts, I grew up in the small town of Wenham.  After seeing that my older brothers had some musical talent, I decided that I would try singing when I got into high school.  Voice lessons and musicals gradually led to music degrees and operas.  After receiving a B.A. in music at Brandeis University, I went to the University of Texas at Austin, where I received the Master of Music degree in voice performance in 2000 and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree, also in voice, in 2005.  After teaching as an assistant professor at Mount Olive College in North Carolina for three years, God led me to Pinehurst Baptist Church.

I grew up as a church kid in a Christian home.  I had learned some of the basic truths of Christianity throughout my childhood, but Jesus was not first in my heart.  As I pursued music, I used that talent to sing in church, but more often I used music to bring glory to myself, not God.  Fortunately, God continued to grab hold of me, despite myself.  Through many experiences, most of which were painful, God showed me the futility and vanity of pursuing my own agenda.  By his grace, he led me to PBC.

I arrived with my wife, Kathy, in Everett in June 2008.  I began as the worship leader, but after assuming more and more ministerial duties, my title was changed to associate pastor in June 2009.  I lead worship, teach on Sunday nights, handle administrative duties, help out with the men's and youth ministries, and do anything else that is needed.  My wife and I had our first son, Caleb, in July 2010.  I am currently working on the Master of Divinity degree at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary's Pacific Northwest Campus.
