Ryan Reese

I grew up in north-central Oklahoma. My parents loved and followed Jesus. They taught my sister, my brothers, and me to do the same. However, I spent the greater part of my adolescence running from Him. Though I knew how to talk like a Christian and walk like a Christian, my heart was far from Him. At the height of my rebellion the Holy Spirit cut through the noise, graciously revealing that I was living my life in the service of masters who could not save nor satisfy. During my sophomore year at Redlands Community College the God of my childhood story-time began to take control of my life. He was not far from me, and was in fact very real (Acts 17:27). While continuing my education at Oklahoma State University, I was given a strong desire to know God through studying the Scriptures. Though I had been a part of diverse Christian congregations, my hunger for the teaching of God’s Word led me through the doors of a Southern Baptist church. I found that nearly as soon as I learned something new about the Lord I had to share it with someone else. I graduated in 2000 with a B.A. in Sociology, and immediately went to work doing what I loved instead. In August 2000, I became the Associate Pastor and Youth Minister at First Baptist Church in Fairview, OK. My time in Fairview was a tremendous time to love and learn. I developed a pastor’s heart under the mentorship of Dr. David Mendenhall. My passion for understanding the truth was sharpened while receiving the Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (2006). And my heart was stolen by Janean Corkery, who became my wife in December of 2003. Our first son, Ezra, was born in 2006, followed by our son Judah in 2008, and our third son, Zebulun, in 2011. In November of 2009 we moved to the Pacific Northwest, as I became the teaching pastor at Pinehurst Baptist Church in Everett. We absolutely love the “wet” coast and are thrilled to watch God work in our midst at Pinehurst. To God be the glory!
